CHRONICLE PRIVACY POLICY

Introduction

Welcome to Chronicle (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We respect your privacy and have designed this app with a privacy-first philosophy. This Privacy Policy explains how Chronicle handles information when you use our mobile application (“App”), and — importantly — what we do not collect.

Chronicle is a single-player, offline history timeline trivia game. You place historical events in chronological order, build daily streaks, earn experience and achievements, and track your own statistics. The App is designed so that everything you do stays on your device, tied to no account, under no login, linked to no profile. The App does not require an internet connection to play.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

1.1 No Account, No Profile

Chronicle does not require you to create an account. We do not collect:

Your name
Your email address
Your phone number
Your username or social handles
Your date of birth
Your photo, avatar, or biographical information
Any contact list, calendar, photo library, location, or social graph

There is no login screen because there is no account.

1.2 Data Stored on Your Device

As you play, the App saves the following only on your device, in your device’s sandboxed local storage, and never transmits it to us or anyone else:

Your game history and recent rounds
Your statistics (best score, accuracy, total rounds, total correct placements)
Your daily streak, longest streak, and last-played dates
Your experience points (XP), level, and tier
Your unlocked achievements
Your per-category accuracy and category streaks
Your progress on the Chronicle Pass
Whether you have seen the tutorial
Your detected or selected language preference

If you delete the App — or use the in-app “Reset Ledger” option — this data is deleted with it.

1.3 No Purchases, No Advertising

Chronicle is free and contains no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no advertising. We do not collect payment information, billing data, or purchase identifiers, and we do not integrate any advertising network.

1.4 Automatically Collected Information

We do not run any third-party analytics SDK, advertising SDK, attribution SDK, or crash-reporting tool that transmits identifiers about you. We do not collect:

Device advertising identifier (IDFA / AAID)
Your IP address
Precise or approximate geolocation
App usage analytics
Crash or performance telemetry
Clickstream data

Chronicle is built using the Rork development toolkit. In Chronicle’s shipped configuration its optional analytics component is disabled, so no usage data is collected or transmitted to Rork or any third party.

1.5 No Network Connection Required

Chronicle functions fully offline. Its event content ships inside the App, and the App does not operate or contact any first-party server. It does not send your gameplay, statistics, or any other information anywhere.

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

The on-device data described in Section 1.2 is used solely to:

Run the game and track your progress within a round
Store your statistics, streaks, achievements, XP, and history so you can return to them in your Ledger
Provide the daily challenge and Chronicle Pass
Show the tutorial once and remember your language preference

We do not use your information for marketing, advertising, profiling, training AI models, or any purpose beyond operating the App on your device.

3.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade any data — personal or otherwise — to any party. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketers. Because your data never leaves your device, there is, in practice, nothing for us to sell or share.

3.2 Service Providers

We do not transmit your information to any processor. The only third parties involved are the platforms that distribute the App:

Apple — for distribution through the App Store (governed by Apple’s privacy policy)
Google — for distribution through the Google Play Store (governed by Google’s privacy policy)

Apple and Google may independently collect download counts, crash data, and device information under their own policies as part of operating their stores. That collection is outside our control and is described in their respective privacy policies.

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a valid government request, or to protect our rights and property, prevent illegal activities, or ensure user safety. Because your data never leaves your device, there is typically nothing for us to disclose in response to such a request.

3.4 Business Transfers

If Chronicle is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, any information we hold (which is minimal) may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified of any such change and of any resulting changes to this Privacy Policy.

4. DATA SECURITY

We implement privacy-by-design and industry-standard safeguards:

On-device data is stored in the operating system’s sandboxed storage, protected by the device’s disk encryption
The App does not operate a backend database of user content; there is no server-side store to breach
We regularly review our dependencies for security advisories

However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. DATA RETENTION

Because we do not store your content on any server, retention is controlled by you:

Your statistics, progress, achievements, and preferences live on your device until you delete the App or clear its data in your device settings
You can also erase all in-app progress at any time using the “Reset Ledger” feature

To stop all local retention immediately, uninstall the App.

6. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

Access — request information about what data we hold about you (in practice, none, because your data stays on your device)
Rectification — correct information we hold about you
Erasure — request deletion of any personal information we hold about you
Restriction — restrict how we process your information
Portability — request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used format
Objection — object to processing of your information
Withdrawal of consent — withdraw any consent you have given

Because Chronicle holds no personal information about you on any server, you can exercise the most important of these rights — erasure — directly and immediately by using “Reset Ledger” or uninstalling the App. For any other request, email us at cankatsarac@gmail.com.

7. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Chronicle collects no personal data from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area) — or, indeed, from any user. The App carries an age rating (9+ / PEGI 7 equivalent) reflecting references to historical events such as wars, which appear only as brief, factual, text-only descriptions. 8. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

Because your data does not leave your device, there are no international transfers of your personal data by us. The store providers in Section 3.2 may process download and device data in countries other than your own, including the United States, under their own safeguards (such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework).

9. THIRD-PARTY LINKS

This Privacy Policy may contain links to third-party websites (such as the privacy pages of Apple and Google). We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these third parties. Please review their privacy policies directly.

10. CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act:

Right to know what categories of personal information are collected
Right to know whether personal information is sold, shared, or disclosed
Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
Right to correct inaccurate personal information
Right to delete personal information
Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information
Right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights

We do not collect, sell, or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR grant you the rights listed in Section 6. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Legal basis for processing (GDPR Art. 6): To the limited extent any processing occurs, it rests on:

Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to deliver the core app functionality
Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to keep the App safe, secure, and functional
Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) — to comply with applicable laws

12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:

Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Policy
Posting the updated Policy at the URL where it is published
In-app notifications where appropriate

Continued use of the App after the effective date of an updated Policy constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy. If you do not agree with the updated Policy, uninstall the App.

14. COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

Chronicle is a native mobile app and does not use browser cookies. We do not use pixels, SDKs, or other tracking technologies that profile you across apps or services.

15. EDUCATIONAL CONTENT NOTICE

Chronicle presents historical dates and facts for general education and entertainment. While the content is curated for accuracy, some dates are traditional or approximate and the App is not a substitute for authoritative scholarship. This does not affect your privacy; it is noted here for completeness and is addressed further in our Terms of Service.

This Privacy Policy is effective as of the date stated above and governs our handling of your information.
